L’Arche Atlanta
At L’Arche Atlanta, people with and without disabilities are welcomed with open arms. No person is viewed as a client, patient, or simply a recipient of services. Instead, we view each other as ambassadors for belonging— people who passionately contribute their gifts and experiences for the good of society. This attitude permeates everything we do, from sharing life together in our two homes, hosting community events for individuals and families, and our state-level advocacy work.
Our Mission
The mission of L’Arche Atlanta is to transform lives by building community among people with and without disabilities.
Our Vision
L’Arche International envisions a world where everyone has a secure place of belonging in community, where people with and without disabilities can live in mutually transformative relationships, and where all people’s gifts are valued and given a place from which to contribute to the wider society.
L’Arche Atlanta envisions a world where everyone belongs.
What is life at L’Arche Atlanta like?
At L’Arche Atlanta, life is rooted in relationships. Our community is a vibrant tapestry where adults with and without intellectual disabilities live, work, and grow side-by-side.
Our days are filled with simple, meaningful moments: from the excitement of a birthday celebration to the quiet conversation on the porch, we find beauty in the everyday. We embrace each person’s unique gifts and create a space where everyone belongs, contributes, and is celebrated.
More than just a place to live, L’Arche Atlanta is a place to be yourself, to be together, to be in community. In a world that often moves fast, we slow down and live intentionally, choosing presence over productivity and connection over convenience.
Why this works?
L’Arche Atlanta works because it’s built on mutual relationships, not hierarchy. We believe that everyone, regardless of ability, has something essential to offer. By living, working, and growing together, we move beyond the roles of “caregiver” and “recipient” into something more human: community.
We center daily life around shared experiences—meals, routines, joys, challenges—which naturally foster trust, dignity, and friendship. In this space, people with intellectual disabilities are not only supported, they are leaders and teachers in the work of building a more compassionate world.
Our approach combines the stability of professional care with the heart of authentic relationships. That’s what makes L’Arche more than a service; it’s a way of life that transforms everyone involved.
Our Network
L’Arche Atlanta is accountable to the high standards of L’Arche USA and L’Arche International.
L’Arche Atlanta is a part of L’Arche USA, which is a part of L’Arche International. L’Arche communities in the United States provide homes and workplaces where people with and without intellectual disabilities live and work together as peers; create inclusive communities of faith and friendship; and transform society through relationships that cross social boundaries.
L’Arche is a worldwide social movement, bringing individuals with disabilities into the hearts of their societies, making their voice heard, providing a true home, and the opportunity to develop their unique gifts to the fullest. Today, there are 159 communities of L’Arche in 38 countries. They are united by a common vision and a shared mission expressed in the official Charter of L’Arche.
The Federation seeks to foster solidarity among communities, ensure unity in diversity, establish the conditions for membership, and to create conditions for trust, service, dialogue, and mutual support.
